John Carrick is the son of John Jay Carrick. He is at least the fifth generation of Carrick to have the name "John", although his grandfather's name was "Alex" so it did not pass directly to him.
He has four sons all of whom played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL):
- Jake (born 11 September 1990)
- Samuel "Sam" (born 4 February 1992)
- Trevor John (born 4 July 1994)
- Joshua Daniel "Josh" (born 24 January 1996)
One went to Lakehead for four years (2011 - 2015). [2]
His wife Jane has a sister who married a Mr. Hughes, and they had at least two hockey-playing children:
- Bobby Hughes (b. 1987)
- Hayley Hughes (b. 1989) [1]
