John Carrick is the son of John Jay Carrick. He is at least the fifth generation of Carrick to have the name "John", although his grandfather's name was "Alex" so it did not pass directly to him.

He married a Jane [1].

He has four sons all of whom played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL):
