Bev Tinsley

Beverley "Bev" Tinsley (née LeMaistre; c. 1937 – December 6, 2022) was a beloved Grade 1 teacher from Almonte, Ontario. She was a daughter of Carleton Place mayor Edward Wyndham LeMaistre and a granddaughter of Christena LeMaistre, dean of the Almonte Sisters.

Early Life

Beverley LeMaistre was born circa 1937 in Carleton Place, Ontario, the daughter of Edward "Ted" LeMaistre and Elizabeth "Lib" LeMaistre. Her father served as mayor of Carleton Place.

Through her father, she was a granddaughter of Christena LeMaistre (née Chicken), the eldest and longest-lived of the Almonte Sisters.

Career

Bev worked as a Grade 1 teacher in Almonte, where she taught hundreds of students over her career. She was particularly remembered for the enthusiasm with which she encouraged reading among her young students.

Marriage and Family

Bev married Gerry Tinsley, and they were together for over fifty-five years until her death.

Bev was a much-loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Later Life

In her final years, Bev entered long-term care, where she was looked after by personal support workers who, according to her husband Gerry, "fell in love with her infectious smile."

Death

Bev passed away peacefully in Almonte on December 6, 2022, at age 85.

A Celebration of Life was held at St. James Anglican Church in Carleton Place on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Inurnment took place at a later date in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Carleton Place.

Memorial donations were directed to the Carleton Place & District Hospital.

Funeral arrangements were handled by C.R. Gamble Funeral Home & Chapel Inc., Almonte.

Obituary

Bev passed away peacefully in Almonte on December 6, 2022, at age 85.

Beloved wife of Gerry for over fifty-five years. Daughter of the late Edward (Ted) and Elizabeth (Lib) LeMaistre, sister of John Currie LeMaistre (Anna), pre-deceased by sister Bette, brother Ted and brother Jamie. Much loved aunt of many nieces and nephews, as well as sister-in-law Ruth Cole (John) and brother-in-law Jack Menzies and the late Retta.

Bev will be remembered by hundreds as their grade one teacher and the enthusiasm with which she encouraged reading. Her close friends will miss her loyalty and laughter.

Gerry offers his gratitude to the PSW's who fell in love with her infectious smile as soon as she entered Long Term Care. Special "thanks" to Joan who comforted her when she needed it most.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carleton Place & District Hospital.

A Celebration of Bev's Life will be held at the St. James Anglican Church (Carleton Place) on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11am.

A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Inurnment will occur at a later date in the St. James Anglican Cemetery (Carleton Place).
