Janice Newman

Janice Newman is the daughter of David Edward Newman and Leslie Tolson, and the granddaughter of Jack Newman. (Not to be confused with her aunt Janet Newman.)

Janice married Gideon Marcus circa 1997. Together they founded Journey Press, a publishing house. Gideon is a professional space historian, author, and public speaker. He is the founder of Galactic Journey, a Hugo-nominated and Serling Award-winning web project that recovers lost voices of science fiction and the Space Race. Janice has contributed introductions to the Rediscovery: Science Fiction by Women anthology series published by Journey Press. She also co-hosts a podcast with Gideon on the Galactic Journey site.

Gideon is the author of The Kitra Saga, a four-book young adult sci-fi series published by Journey Press, with illustrations by their daughter Lorelei Marcus. The first volume, Kitra, was published in 2019.

Janice and Gideon live in San Diego, California.

They have one child:

• Lorelei Marcus, an illustrator and singer, who married Elijah Sauder in June 2025. They have decided to adopt a new shared last name (to be confirmed).
