Shirley McAuliffe (née LeMaistre; 1926 – July 26, 2021) was a Canadian public servant and granddaughter of Christena LeMaistre, dean of the Almonte Sisters.
Early Life
Shirley LeMaistre was born in 1926 in Almonte, Ontario, the daughter of John LeMaistre and Florence LeMaistre. Through her father, she was a granddaughter of Christena LeMaistre (née Chicken), the eldest and longest-lived of the Almonte Sisters.
She grew up with her sisters Grace and Jacqueline.
Marriage and Family
Shirley married Ivan McAuliffe, who predeceased her in 2003.
Children:
- Nancy McAuliffe – married Robert Cormier
- Joanne Seymour (died 2020)
- Adele Wallace – married Jim Wallace
Grandchildren:
- Shane Warner – married Jennifer Routliffe; children: Evan, Elle, and Shea Warner
- Jordan Warner – married Krista Balenko
- Auzsha Apps
- Dustin Seymour – married Mendara Chan; children: Violet and Lincoln Seymour
Career
Shirley enjoyed a successful career in the Canadian public service.
Later Life
Shirley and Ivan were active members of the Rivermead Golf Club in Ottawa and spent their winters in Florida.
Following Ivan's death in 2003, Shirley continued to live independently until she began experiencing symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. She spent her final seven years at New Orchard Lodge, a long-term care facility.
Death
Shirley died on July 26, 2021, in her 95th year, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. A virtual memorial service was held on August 21, 2021.
