Bertrand Joseph Clergue
Bertrand Joseph Clergue was an American engineer and businessman, the youngest brother of Francis H. Clergue, the promoter who transformed Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Bertrand was a graduate of Boston Tech (now the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and served as his brother's chief technical lieutenant in Sault Ste. Marie from 1894 onwards.
He is also notable for his close personal and business relationship with J.J. Carrick, the Port Arthur real estate promoter and politician. In June 1913, Bertrand Clergue and J.J. Carrick (and Mrs. Carrick) traveled together aboard the CNR liner Royal George from Bristol, England, to Montreal -- confirming that the Carrick and Clergue families maintained an ongoing business partnership well into the 1910s.
Bertrand Joseph Clergue died in Waterbury, Connecticut, in March 1930.
