Diane Scott

(Phyllis) Diane Scott (1940 – 15 September 2018) was a Canadian nursing educator who pioneered distance and online education in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Early life and education
Scott was born in 1940 in Toronto, Ontario. She received a BSc in Nursing from the University of Toronto in 1962 and a Master of Education from the University of Central Michigan in 1994.
Career
Scott taught at Lakehead University and Confederation College, covering psychiatric nursing and other subjects. At Confederation College she held several senior roles, including Director of Curricular Design and Development, Director of Community Education Programs, and Director International. She was instrumental in securing funds to create and build the Thunder Bay Health Unit.
Scott pioneered distance and online education, making programmes accessible in Thunder Bay and in remote and northern communities. Her innovations in distance learning spread to Colombia, India, China, and Ghana. She served on the boards of Thunder Bay District Family and Children's Services, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and the Thunder Bay branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Death
Scott died on 15 September 2018 in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
