Doug Bellin
Douglas O. "Doug" Bellin (13 February 1945 - 27 April 2022) was the husband of Marilyn Smyth, making him a cousin-in-law of Loraine Currie.
Obituary
We are saddened to announce that Douglas O. Bellin passed away April 27, 2022 in Toronto, after complications from surgery. He was born February 13, 1945 in Port Arthur to Herb and Eve Bellin and was married in 1966 to Marilyn Smyth. He is survived by wife Marilyn, son, Ryan (Heidi), daughter, Tracey (Dan), granddaughter, Kaylee (Keegan), brother-in-law Ron Smyth, sisters-in-law Pauline Smyth and Tina Bellin, many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, as well as his beloved dog, Moxie. His family was his greatest pride and joy.
He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, Harvey and Lauretta Smyth, brothers, Sonny (Carl Bellin), Wayne, and sister, Mona Nieminen, niece, Carlene, nephew, Kevin, and brother-in-law, Gary Smyth.
Doug was educated at Cornwall School, Queen Elizabeth, Hillcrest High School, and King’s Business College. He worked at Northern Wood Preservers, grain elevators, was assistant manager of the Odeon Theatre, sales manager at Bay Beverages (Coca Cola), manager at Roby’s and Kelsey’s restaurants, owned the Burger Baron, supervisor at Mac’s, retiring from his own business doing renovations and maintenance for Mac’s and Subway.
Doug had a passion and talent for home renovation, remodelling several homes in Thunder Bay, their camp at Loon Lake, and building their little dream home on Cloud Bay, moving there in 2019 with Marilyn. Together, they enjoyed travelling. He and Marilyn went on cruises and travelled to other destinations, such as Caribbean resorts, Las Vegas, Argentina, and Paris.
In addition to travelling and construction, Doug and Marilyn were lucky to have a great group of fun, longtime friends. He was always happiest when he was hosting others, bartending, barbecuing, cooking or captaining the pontoon boat. Doug also loved winemaking, camping, fishing, watching sports, playing guitar, as well as lending a hand to or teaching anyone who needed to build or repair something. He was in his happy place at Cloud Bay admiring the view and his handiwork.
There will be a private scattering of ashes this summer with many small gathering afterwards to reminisce.
