June Elizabeth Solmosan helped Michael Currie carry groceries home in Fall 2007 when he did not have a car, in her car. He would sometimes see her walking her dog; but perhaps only 5 or 6 times throughout 2007 - 2013. He would note her red car outside of Bowen House. 709 2 Ave NW, while walking home. The final time he saw her was around Fall 2015, when he saw her while biking with his Russian girlfriend.

Apparently she moved out of Sunnyside and he never saw her again.

With heavy hearts, we announce June Elizabeth Solmosan, our beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, Alberta on Monday, March 6, 2023, at the age of 95 years.

June is lovingly remembered by her children; Lynda and Larry Billings of Edmonton, James and Teresa Solmosan of Calgary and her niece Patricia Jaquith of Maryland. She is remembered by her grandchildren; Aryon (Ryan), Julie (Mike Reid), Jefferey (April), and Joanna (Trevor Lysyk). Great-Grandma June was loved and admired by her 5 great-grandchildren; Josslyn, Keaton, Samantha, Sylvie-Lee, and Surina.

She is predeceased by her husband James “Rocky” Solmosan, her parents Frank and Margaret Tovee, her sisters Lyn Tovee and Margaret Rosenblatt, and her brother Delhi Tovee.

June was born in Wainwright, Alberta. Her parents immigrated from England and eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta. June found her true love by marrying her husband James “Rocky” Solmosan. They made their home in Sunnyside to raise a family, where she lived her entire life, until her last 10 years at Millrise Seniors Village.

June worked in customer service at Sears North Hill until retirement. She made many lifelong friends and memories. Her generosity never ceased in helping others and volunteering for charities, including Meals on Wheels. She found joy in her family, cooking, gardening, long walks, her many cats and dogs, her friends, and being out in the sunshine as often as she could. June could be found daily enjoying Prince’s Island Park or Rosedale Park walking her beloved dog Nikki.

June spent time in Anglemont BC, where she and Rocky built a vacation home. She enjoyed bus trips organized by Confederation Park, traveling with her friend Evelyn Oliver. Her sister Lyn moved back to Calgary for her retirement, and the sisters spent many years caring for each other and enjoying their time together. Her kindness and generosity will be remembered and deeply missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM.

Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
