Lynda McKeown

Lynda McKeown is a dental hygienist and educator who was the first dental hygienist to practise in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Career

McKeown graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry and began practising dental hygiene in Thunder Bay in 1964, the first person to do so in the city. She joined the faculty of Confederation College in 1972.

She earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in Occupational Ethics from Lakehead University in 1992, followed by a Master of Arts in Sociology in 1995.

McKeown was a founding member of the Thunder Bay Dental Hygienists Society and served as President of the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association. She was the first President of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). She co-authored a chapter on palliative dental hygiene care for the sixth edition of Darby and Walsh Dental Hygiene: Theory and Practice.
