Mildred Jane Foster

Mildred Jane Foster ((1913-11-16)16 November 1913 – 8 January 2009(2009-01-08) (aged 95)) was a community leader in Fort William, Ontario, best known for her role in establishing the 55 Plus Centre.

Early life

Foster was born on 16 November 1913 in Fort William. During World War II she worked at Chapples Department Store and the Canadian Car and Foundry.

Community service

Foster was instrumental in establishing the 55 Plus Centre in Thunder Bay, coordinating donation drives and community outreach that led to its opening in September 1991 on River Street.

She was a member of the Greenstone Rebekah women's lodge since 1932 and served on the CKPR-TV Advisory Council from 1985 to 1998. She received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1992 and the Province of Ontario International Year of Older Persons Award in 1999. She celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary in 1998.

Death

Foster died on 8 January 2009.
