Rob Steadwell (Jan. 28, 1940 - Dec. 10, 2023) was the husband of Fay Gleeson

It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Rob” Steadwell on Dec. 10, 2023 with his family at his side.

Rob was born on Jan. 28, 1940 in Fort William, where he resided his whole life.

Rob married his teenage sweetheart, Fay Gleeson and they spent 66 wonderful years together. If they weren’t at home, you could find them out at Shebandowan Lake or travelling by car or boat.

In Rob's own words “from delivery driver to customs broker to milkman to railway brakeman to woodlands worker. Then retiring to enjoy my home at Shebandowan Lake. I am going to join my son Derek and past family members. It was a blast!!”

Predeceased by son Derek, brother Derek, parents Bert and Dorothy, in-laws Lorne and Zip Gleeson, nephew Lee Wanecki, brother in-laws Sigmund Wanecki, Rod, Gary and Dan Gleeson and sister-in-law Rosemary Steadwell.

Survived by his wife Fay, children Lorna (Dave), Mike (Shelley), Cam, John (Filamena), 12 grandchildren Jazzmin (Brady), Levi (Ashley), Katie and Bryan, Mitchell (Tawnie), Remington (Tori) Laura (Jonathon) Derek (Ashton), Madison and Mya, Jonathon and Mike and 8 great grandchildren – all of whom he loved very dearly. As well as cousin John Wright (Judy), sister in-laws Bryer Wanecki and Ione, Marisa and Mila Gleeson. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Good friends, Odean Goodsell, Rob and Sharon Paterson and Wally, Muriel and Terri Lyn Zaremsky.

Thanks to the Paramedics, Police and Fire Departments for their prompt response.

Special thank you to ICU staff, Dr. George, Sean Sinclair, Danielle McLean and Jamie Funk.

As per Rob’s wishes there will be no service.

Donations can be made to his favourite charities: Diabetes Canada, Kidney Foundation of Canada,

Covenant House, United Way or Heart and Stroke Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
