Robert Bruce Wightman

Robert Bruce Wightman was a Canadian mining executive active in the mid-twentieth century. He served as a Director of Gachin Holdings Limited and J.J. Carrick Limited, and was one of the original founders of the Labrador Mining and Exploration Company, which was later acquired and controlled by Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines.

Career

Wightman had broad mining experience across Canada, from Quebec to Labrador. He was among the original group who organised the Labrador Mining and Exploration Company, which later became a significant Hollinger-controlled operation.

In the mid-1940s he was elected a Director of Gachin Holdings Limited, the gold-mining investment syndicate founded and operated by J.J. Carrick of Toronto. He simultaneously served as a Director of J.J. Carrick Limited.

Carrick-ature

In December 1946, J.J. Carrick featured Wightman in his newspaper column Carrick-atures, which ran in the Evening Telegram (Toronto) and other Canadian papers. Wightman's photograph accompanied a description of his qualifications and his newly elected directorship of Gachin Holdings.
