Ruth Tye McKenzie

Ruth Tye McKenzie (6 October 1929 – 31 January 2023 (aged 93)) was a Canadian visual artist based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, known for her paintings, etchings, and the Nudescapes series.
Early life and education
McKenzie was born on 6 October 1929. She studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Ontario College of Art.
Career
McKenzie founded the Painted Turtle Art Shop in 1983, operating it as a combined studio and gallery. Her body of work encompassed paintings, etchings, mixed media, and the Nudescapes series, which combined northern Ontario landscapes with human figures.
She received the first Thunder Bay Regional Arts Council Award to Business in 1986 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. The Thunder Bay Art Gallery mounted retrospectives of her work in 2003 and 2023.
Death
McKenzie died on 31 January 2023.
