Marshall Savage, his wife and baby daughter MacKensie, shown here, were rescued from the bottom of Grizzly Creek Canyon, Colo., in 1999. In a July 1999 letter to Colorado Army National Guard Col. Joel Best, former commander of the High-altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site, Marshall wrote, “Nothing I can say will approximate my feeling of gratitude for the actions of all involved in getting my wife and baby girl out of that desperate trap.” He goes on to describe the pilot and crew chief as “certifiable heroes” with “dedication and courage that are well beyond the bounds of any reasonable call to duty.” MacKensie is now a teenager and beginning her acting career.
