Decedents whose estates were probated in the Thunder Bay District Surrogate Court but who did not reside in the district. Their foreign or out-of-district grants of probate were resealed locally (ancillary probate) so that assets they held in the area — land, shares, bank deposits — could be administered. The best-known example is Sir Eustase Gurney of England, of the Norwich banking family.

These records are drawn from the Canadian Regional Historical Wealth Micro-Data Collection. Note that a non-resident's recorded estate value is generally the whole estate as resealed, not the portion held in the Thunder Bay District, so it is not comparable to a local decedent's.
